With our recent session box 2.0 update has come a new way to add your own custom colours for pads in your session box, all you need is a controller with LED feedback. The Novation Launchpad and Akai APC40 are good examples of this amongst many more.
Midi remote scripts can send colours to your midi controller using “velocity” values and you can now add these values yourself inside Remotify!
Scrolling down to the bottom of the session box page, you’ll see a new box titled ‘LED Feedback’ which contains 11 different input boxes:
Setting these values applies to all clips in a session box and are fired when specific events happen. Here’s a list of the events you can apply colours to:
Session Box Events:
- Clip Started (when a clip is playing)
- Clip Stopped (the clip is stopped)
- Clip Triggered To Play (clip has been triggered to play and will do so at the next quantization occurance)
- Clip Triggered To Record (clip has been triggered to record and will do so at the next quantization occurance)
- Record (clip is set to record and will do so when pressed)
- Stop Clip Triggered (clip has been triggered to stop and will do so at the next quantization occurance)
- Stop Clip (clip is set as a stop clip)
- Clip Recording (clip is recording)
- Scene (a scene clip)
- No Scene (no scene available)
- Scene Triggered (scene has been triggered to play and will do so at the next quantization occurance)
As an example, say I’m using the ‘launchpad S’ as my midi controller. I know that it uses the number 52 to display a green colour. If I enter this for the ‘clip started’ input inside Remotify, then the midi controller’s pads will display green whenever their relative clips are playing inside Ableton.
How do I find colour values for my midi controller?
Each value you enter for LED feedback will be a number from 1 – 127. As I mentioned, each midi controller uses its own set of values for displaying different colours so you’ll need to find these for your own midi controller.
To help with this, we’ve setup a forum topic which contains colour values for different controllers. If your required controller isn’t listed, leave a reply in the post and we’ll try and find the details for it.
This is unchartered territory for Remotify and is currently a BETA feature, so any feedback from you all will be very much appreciated!
