Newbie Question: "Currently Active Track" possible?

I'm new to CSS and I've done some searching in the forums, but I can't seem to find a direct answer to my question.

Within a script (I'm creating one for DJTT MFT) I must specify a track's number as part of its config. This means if I want to control devices on eight tracks I have to create eight tracks and within those tracks, n-device controls. Do I have that correct?

Does the concept of a relative "currently active track" exist? (Or, for that matter, relative/active anything.) That would allow me to have one track entry that works on the currently active channel. Same for devices.

Given the power and breadth of CSS I'm assuming that if this was possible it'd be possible, but it's not so it isn't. :-)

Verification is appreciated.
